Takamatsu Construction Group USA, Inc. was established in 2017 as the group’s first overseas office based in New York City to conduct market research and explore the potential in the US market through real estate management and development.
The company has acquired two properties in Manhattan: one a rental apartment and the other a 100-year-old property that was completely renovated and marketed as a for-sale luxury townhouse in July of this year. Due to the pandemic, the townhouse was completed about ten months behind schedule. Taichi Soga, the company’s president, expressed his relief at its completion, saying, “I think we were able to express our unique Japanese aesthetic through simple and natural design.” The pandemic also revealed changes in tenants’ demands and needs for property operation.
“I believe ‘work from anywhere’ will be the theme for the future,” said Soga.
The number of people now working from home has increased, and, like in other large cities, many people migrated out of Manhattan. Meanwhile, the company has responded by directing its property operations to people who want to live and start working in Manhattan immediately.
“At our company, we are not only offering rentals, but our business is service and hospitality. The excellence of Japanese service may be taken for granted in Japan, but customers can appreciate it as something special overseas.” Soga is convinced that incorporating the “Japanese appeal,” an attribute he has noticed through his experience is valued abroad, will be a strength.
As for real estate development projects, construction has recently begun on an apartment development in Laguna Niguel, an affluent suburb of Los Angeles, in a joint venture with a US-based residential real estate development company. In recent years, major IT companies and the like have set up satellite offices in the area attracted by the area’s pleasant coastal climate and continues to attract a young population with highly specialized skills. “With amenities such as a swimming pool, bar, and business center to enhance the brand value, the property brings a sense of luxury to its residents,” said Soga. The company has other real estate development projects underway in California.
